Autumn is a fantastic time in nature. You can notice the first chilliness and fresh autumn air when being outside. All the summer colors gets changed to different warm tones from yellow to orange and red. With the overall beautiful and colorful look, nature is inviting us to enjoy our time outdoors to be part of this amazing experience. I decided to spend a day hiking in Lahemaa National Park to find some autumn scenes to photograph. This time I only took one lens as my companion, together with my Sony a7RV. The SIGMA 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary lens.

Usually I take more lenses with me to be ready for different scenarios. This time I wanted to see if having only one lens would bother me somehow or if it does affect the scenes I capture at all. I have used other SIGMA Contemporary lenses quite a while now and I own the SIGMA 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | Contemporary and the SIGMA 16-28mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary lenses and I have been very satisfied with the results so far. Therefore, I had no doubts that the SIGMA 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary lens quality would be somehow different.

I started my hike about an hour after the sunrise. The hiking road went through different forests and you can also see some small waterfalls during the hike. I wanted the sun to be high enough to peak through the trees. It gave me some good light in the end and made all the autumn colors come to life. I didn’t want to limit myself with some specific captures so whatever attracted my eye I photographed. Just spending good quality time outdoors and wandering through nature.

Some photos were captured really quickly if I saw something. But from time to time, I found myself photographing different small nature details and textures. I lost track of time and suddenly found that I had been taking photos of one specific subject for about 30-45 minutes. It felt very refreshing. Taking the time and working with the scene. At the same time, not thinking about if the lens offers the quality that I was hoping for. Because it did.

About 10 kilometers and many hours later, I had finished the hike and realised a couple of things.

Firstly, during the hike I questioned myself if I had the lens with me at all. The lens is so compact and lightweight. Weighing only 470g with the dimensions of 72x101mm. Perfect for these kind of hikes or multi-day hikes where the weight of your bag is crucial and the space in your bag is limited. Also traveling where your weight of the luggage is even more crucial.

Secondly, bringing just one lens with me didn’t bother me at all. It kind of made me free about having to decide all the time which lens I should use in different situations. I never had to think about it. Like I said before, I was just wandering through nature and let my mind be free of these thoughts. I could focus more on the scenes I wanted to photograph. Only one lens and different autumn scenes.

I think the SIGMA 28-70mm F2.8 DG DN | Contemporary is a perfect lens for people who are traveling more and want to keep things simple. At the same time getting very good quality out of the lens with the price tag it has.
The 28-70mm range and F2.8 aperture let you capture pretty much everything and it doesn’t limit the scenes you want to capture during your travels or family vacations.

I had a very good and refreshing time outdoors with different autumn colors and, of course, also with the SIGMA 28-70mm F/2.8 DG DN | Contemporary lens.
